FIELDBUS Basics

whts a fieldbus?how can it b calibrated on the field. voltage can b chkd on the transmitter but milliamps cannot b chkd reason why?does the transmitter has other signals rather than milliamps.how does it work.wht is the funtionality.

The Wiki definition of fieldbus in Chris's reply is very good.

You can check milliamps from a transmitter by connecting your ammeter in series with the circuit as shown in this diagram which I borrowed from http://www.doctronics.co.uk/meter.htm. Visit their website for a good explanation of, "why?".
