I would have thought that the self evident advantages are rapid axial displacement per turn due to the high helix angle with minimum stress raiser and root diameter reduction (i.e. strength).

Such threads are obviously more difficult/specialist and so costly to make and there are very few applications where they would be worth the trouble I suspect - so you rarely see them.
