BZ Number.

In radiographic inspection the "film quality" is determened by the thinnest IQI wire that can be seen. This is called the BZ Number.

What does the BZ stand for/mean?

It's an abbreviation of a German term which appears in the old DIN 54109: Bildgütezahl which means more or less " index of image quality" if I recall the few German knowledge I had.

Kind regards

Dear Quobaldt,

This reference is the only discussion I could find to discuss this value, in reference to the combined 'Belief value' of a matrix to determine the plausibility of the radiation recorded from an examination of a cargo container being highly nuclear.

In paragraph 47: (italics mine)

"[0047]At step 322, the combined belief value, Bz, for the selected hypothesis may be compared with a first threshold value. In addition, the uncertainty, U, may be compared with a second threshold value. These threshold values may be user configurable. If the combined belief value is greater than or equal to the first threshold and the uncertainty is below a second threshold, the selected hypothesis may then be determined to be plausible."

Perhaps this lengthy article combined with your studies will connect you with the meaning of BZ in respect to inspection film resolution quality.

Regards, CJM
