Project anyone?

07/19/2009 2:40 AM

Last night I attended an extended family celebration in a restaurant.

The temperature was below 3deg Celsius. (as indicated on the warning system of a Car.)

The dedicated smokers went to the smokers section only shielded from the elements by a thick plastic curtain. In the group were a smoking pair with 3 kids (6, 3 and a baby in a carry seat)

My proposal is roughly:-

Develop a nicotine rich fluid or gel that can release nicotine when exposed to air flow.

Manufacture dowel like imitation cigarettes and even paint the tip red and the base / filter.

There should be a chamber where the air could do its trick and release sufficient nicotine to satisfy the addiction.

The "smokers" can then attend the normal sections without being criminals.

While you are at it you may give the "smokers" a choice between lung and other cancers.

I don't want to have a share in the business (although a lot of money will be made) but I would be satisfied to receive the Tax savings.

This was already done some time ago. Smokers did not like it very much so it never sold well. There are also nicotine gums and patches... But the smokers want to smoke, the nicotine is only half the fun..

In my day I was addicted to nicotine gum for about two years before I finally managed to quit. It was actually an innocuous habit, but expensive. I ended up getting the gum from Holland as it was much cheaper there than in the USA. The Dutch government subsidized it.

Hi Steve

I also did smoke stop smoking for n times but only started n-1 times (where n > 50)

The patches and gum only came afterwards, but I once bought a set of cigarette holders with increasing hole size. I discarded the set after I closed the hole of #4 with masking tape.

Finally - Wat is die waarheid?

Hi Hendrik,

I am a bit confused: you did stopped smoking n tines, that is, for me, you started smoking n times not n-1. Now, if you started n times and stopped n-1 times I get it as a good joke.

Finally: De waarheid is bevrijdend where de waarheid is "truth"...in Afrikaans

Truth in Dutch

Or Afrikaans I guess.

OHHH.... Now I get it. That was a very subtle way of asking the age old philosophical question, "What is truth?"

Sounds like the subject for a different thread.

Not really a question (everyone is entitled to his own truth)

Just nice to see something Afrikaans related on the site.

I don't know just how effective this will be, but a Japanese company has invented what it calls "healthy" nicotine-free cigarettes. Funny, but I always thought that the whole point of smoking tobacco was to take in nicotine, and that it is the constituents found in the smoke that does most of the damage to one's health, not so much the nicotine itself.

Ah well, only in Japan (as usual)!!!!

Nicotine free cigarettes is close enough to cigarette free nicotine.

I know this won't necessarily help you quit "smoking" altogether, but these are possible not-as-unhealthy alternatives...

Virtual (USB ) cigarettes - that seems to be the answer.

I did stop completely about 20 years ago.

Hello, my name is Kwetz and I'm a smoker......

Those things doesn't work. Smokers like to SMOKE, not to get brain injected nicotine nor similar things.

Quit smoking is very easy (I used to quit every night during many years) the problem is to keep as non smoker. Now I'm one year, one month and 20 days (it's my personal record, but now I'm convinced)

Poor smokers

Re: Project anyone?

The world is becomming full of lobyists

1. Nicotine can be oxidised to nicotinic acid (niacin) which is present in minute amounts in all living cells. The corresponding amide, niacinamide, is an essential B vitamin. (http://www.ch.ic.ac.uk/rzepa/mim/drugs/html/nicotine.htm)

2. The tobacco is a cash crop that is grown in approximately 4.2m Hectare or more (think about those poor farmers)

3. The tobacco works well in case of deficient rain fall (like this year the indian rain has failed-- the average is <50% of normal)

4. Tobacco (along with Alcohol) are world over tha major income for government - that is later spent in various extravaganzas - creating more flow of wealth across.

5. Even if it causes cancer increases the probability of cancer, so does the exhaust fumes, CO,.... fried food, cooked food, cell phone,... So let us go back to prehistoric period and assume it was not there then (who knows, only we know there was no diagnostics)

6. Even if it was to cause, the death rate will increase, and that is good since there is unfortunately too much struggle to keep people alive till 100 or more years- in old age homes ane places like that (I can safely talk since I am not too far from the retirement age another 10 Yrs or so.. then start burdening the society )

7 Thing about the employment- tobacco processing factories and so on.

8. Small scale business - like the cigarette shop.

9. Employment for the doctors, nurses

10. Employment for the factories of MRI and other scanning machines.

11 Employment for the big multinational drug companies, employees, researchers...

.....

Now in this current world recession, all the persons who dont smoke especially those who have quit smoking are acting against nation socialism humanity.

Long live Tobacco..... <deep breath after the long political lecture>

Don't worry fellow smokers the humanity may be against us but we aren't against them. Keep smoking as I am as I take up the cudgel.

Hi sb,

"Now in this current world recession, all the persons who dont smoke especially those who have quit smoking are acting against nation socialism humanity."

"Long live Tobacco....."

"Keep smoking as I am..."

I don't know why have you shoot your answer to me.

Yes, I'm one of those having quit smoking (at least "primary" smoking) but let me know if just one of my words acts against someone/something.

I have some ex-smokers friends that are more fanatic against tobacco than some others who never have smoked but this don't makes a rule.

Last night I was dining with some friends, some smoking and some not, and nobody discussed about it nor asked/obliged smokers to get out to the cold night...

Putting the tobacco in the same bag as cell phones regarding the potential health effects or to promote smoking is a "boutade" (I'm in France for a couple of weeks)

Weapons/military industries also have created many employments but I wouldn't recommend to use weapons because of that

I agree with you regarding lobbyists, even I'm not sure if they are more and more or just the same wearing different disguises.

I found interesting your link, but don't play with words/terms: Arsenic is a known element (I'm a series "B" fan) which have medical uses some of them as recent as helper to PET techniques. This doesn't make As a recommended diet element.

I think you know also that the main tobacco induced risks isn't nicotine, but hundreds of different combustion products of which I couldn't find any reference in your post (Quel dommage!)

I fully respect your right to smoke but if you stop one minute to think maybe you'll agree that promoting smoke is more dangerous to humanity than those stupids who blame against smokers.

Kind regards

Available in Europe. My brother in law used it for a while went back to smoking.

I used to smoke 200/day. Gave up cold 42 years back. Only way to do it. The American Philosopher William James helped with his article on 'Habit'.
