Gaskets for O2 Line

07/22/2009 4:39 AM

What is the recommended thickness of the gasket and material for oxygen line of about 20bar pressure with temperature of about 140 deg c. Line size upto 200mm. I was thinking of using SS gasket with filler. But these are available with minimum thickness of 3 to 4.5mm. Normally thinner gaskets are used for gas lines, I remember.

My friend you have a very nice troubble. I suggest not to use flanges, as possible, try butt welds, and fast connections at the line end.

Yes All line joints are of BW. Only flanged valves and terminals require gaskets.

I would be inclined to use glass filed PTFE.

Thickness depends on the quality of the machining of your flanges.

I have finally decided to go for 1.6mm teflon gasket.

Suggest you use glass filled PTFE to reduce creep, especially at the temp you could be using.

what is this glass filled PTFE? Does not the powdered glass damage the PTFE in compression?

No but it reduces creep and significantly increases strength.
