Security Against Piracy at Sea

07/28/2009 3:48 PM

How about installing high pressure water jets on the weather decks in areas leading to manned spaces. It can be connected into the firemain and controlled from the bridge. Cost to install would not be all that great. I got this idea from the saltwater washdown system used on Navy vessels.

That's what they use normally. How about beef it up a little, by adding two or three 180 grain, sharp pointy things that speed around 1200 ft/sec. I don't understand why a ship can't defend itself with real bullets and shells. Is it some kind of maritime law that says you cant have bullets aboard or you become a Navel vessel??

No one of common sense. Giving bigger guns to the people on the ships won't help as the pirates will themselves get even bigger guns, thus greatly increasing the chances of casualties on both sides.

Don't forget that weapons are very easy and inexpensive to come by, not just in third world countries but also in Western countries like USA (and giving bigger guns to the American police hasn't helped crime).

Lets face it pirates seldom board a ship in high seas. It's just to darn risky. So, low seas it is;

In the prison system, you have a electrically charged fence around the prison. Do the same with a ship at just below the main deck around the outside. "not a fence but a wire".

and remember not to touch the 3rd rail...haha. Hey, it sounds crazy but it can be done and really, who would want to throw a grapple hook then?
