Orifice Plate

08/11/2009 1:52 PM

Hey guys - got an orifice plate here with some #s on it, the numbers are:

K1=6

K2=2 3/4

6-300

M-15350

3.173

Can anyone tell me what these numbers means? Thank for your time.

What are the dimensions of the plate (OD and orifice dia)? They may match up to the first numbers. The 6 - 300 may be a range of dP or flow rate values for which it was originally calibrated. The M-15350 may be a model number. The last, I don't even want to guess.

It could really help if you had a manufacturer name.

I believe the K! is line size, K2 is inlet size, 6-300 is flange rating, M-15350 is either tag no. or matl, and 3.173 may be the corrected bore size.

It is unclear from the information that is provided whether the orifice plate is used meter rate of flow or to restrict flow.

It appears that the designer of the orifice plate has considered flow resistance in the the pipe and valve/s in the line.

K values are the values allowed bythe designer in the design of orifice plate. Refer 'Flow of Fluids" through valves fittings and pipe published by Crane or other text you may have access to. Refer to flow through Nozzles and Orifices.

My guess is that the other numbers are clues for the supplier to identify the orifice plate.
