Copper Tin Lead Plating?

08/12/2009 2:28 PM

I am working on a reverse engineering project for a customer. The part is a gear bushing and has a Copper (73.841%) Tin (3.90%) Lead (21.60%) plating (the analysis says it is consistent with CU-116492). I am having difficulty finding a supplier (inside the US) who can do this type of plating. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Matt

If this is just a plating then switch to another type with similar or superior characteristics. The plating only needs to be fit for the purpose and environment the part will be operating in.

Sorry,

I'm not sure that," working on a reverse engineering project for a customer", and asking for a supplier here is appropriate.

If it were my design you were, "reverse engineering" I might not want to help.

Not quite sure what you are getting at, reverse engineering of machine components is both common and legal. The courts deem the equipment to be in the public domain assuming that the actual parts themselves are not patented.

You have not given clear details of your application and the information you have given could be read that you are trying to reverse engineer a customer's competitor product (hence the comment).

Since this is public domain can you please provide more information to help clarify (including part and its intended application, working environment, etc).
