Pressboard Cores

08/18/2009 3:02 PM

I work in a facitlity that processes tissue paper. When the tissue has been converted we are left with a 3" in diameter core approx 26" long. We have asked the supplier if they want the cores back, but they don't. Can anyone suggest where we might sell the cores or if there is a machine that could process them to reduce the bulk. We generate about twenty galords a month and they take up too much room in our warehouse. thanks

So you are trying to do something with 3"diax26" "Logs" of paper fiber? Sounds like good fuel for burning to me. Unfortunately I have no clue how much "twenty galords" is.

Used to get styrene beads in Gaylords. It's about the size of a shipping pallet and about that high. It's about however big you need it to be, I think.

Burn or mulch? Maybe use them to grow earth worms? Check into that. Worms eat newsprint.

Are these "cores" solid interior, or are they actually "tubes" ????

I assume the cores are cardboard tubes. Transport these cores to a paper mill. Perhaps your local garbage company recycles cardboard. Transport is cheaper if the stuff is baled. Balers in many sizes are availble commercially for all sorts of solid waste. Im sure that this core material is recyclable.

If the cores are wood, sell them for fireplace fuel.

I work in the recycling business. Someone is always willing to accept this kind of material.

let me know where you live, i might be able to hook you up.

About a year ago, I installed one of these beasts

http://www.ssiworld.com/index-en.htm - it can process anything.

If nothing else, a cool link

The one I installed processes cores of about 16 feet long by 8-10 inch diameter (at about 15 - 25 tons an hour!!!!)

They (SSI) might make a smaller unit, but would probably be cost prohibitive to use in your facility.

I am sure if you contact a few recycling facilities in your area, someone will be interested.

It's a waste (literally) to get rid of these, (as waste) and
there's always a use for everything - especially in quantity.

e.g. how about seedling protectors? Printed, cut into different
lengths, and retailed 99p? How about packing pieces? e.g cheap
veneered doors use a cardboard insert. Or ready made stud work?
Insulated flooring, even ceilings sections! e.g. 3 inch pieces laid
side by side and vertically glued together covered with a sheet
at both ends? Instant lightweight stud panels £20 each?

I'm sure with a little ingenuity a whole new business could be
created from quantities like this. If you make good remember me!
Good luck.

jt.

I had a stick once, but I couldn't throw it away.. it kept coming back.

Hello,

Since the core pipes are cut in smaller size, paper makers can not use it again. Try to sell it to paper board maker who can use it by re-pulping in the filler layer.

The problem is they are bulky. So the transportation costs make it prohibitive. The objective is to reduce their footprint in our facility.

You will need a machine(s) that will cut the tubes into lengths of approximately (*). These will be coated with an adhesive, to serve as a core to be sandwiched between two sheets of a material (could be aluminum, plastic or fibrous material), forming a composite panel (similar to honeycomb) for use as a building product in construction or home decoration. This could be a new business opportunity for you. The length (*), of each piece of tube would be determined by the total thickness of the final panel thickness. This will require an investment in new machinery, so it is important that you are sure the supply of tubes will be constant and the material of the tubes from the supplier won't change.
