Information Request-Manufacturing Scanner Products

I would like to custom design and manufacture a hanheld scanner with certain features, but I'm not sure on how to go about selecting a company. Can someone give some sort of direction?

I am somehow in to the same aim. I need a scanning product for a specific purpose. And I need to find a compnay who will provide the software and hardware for it. I can share any knowledge that I find with you and I appreciate if you do as well.
