Translation

I'm sure there must be potential for your idea. It might not be quite what you have in mind, but I've had countless consumer (electrical) goods where the enclosed instructions have been translated from Chinese in a way that makes them impossible to understand. I don't have any that immediately come to mind, but if people sent you examples you could write to the Chinese manufacturer, enclosing a readable translation, and offer your services. It would quite possibly also work with English/American goods sold in China.

I'm confident in my translation skills between English and Chinese. I was graduated from a University major in English, and I had acquired a good theory and practice of translation. I have some free time and also want to take freelance translation as a good second job.

After graduation, I took a freelance translation job for a Chinese translation company when i was working for a Korean company as an order follow-up. I have translated some company introductions, medical theses, gear introduction,visa, and electric equipment manual and certificate. I'm recently translating UL1741 certificate for our company.

I want to be focused on the electric translation, as I think a good translater should be a focused translater. I like electric and have a good background of it. That's the reason I choose it as my target.

Hi Ani-Lou,

I wish that I had some work I could pass your way, but unfortunately haven't. However, your posts may hopefully catch the attention of somebody who has need. It might be worth your joining the user group for Chinese members (CNPower is all alone there !), sporting the flag alongside your avatar may help to catch peoples attention. Also, if you add some of your details to your CR4 biography space it has greater chance of being seen by more people.

Like Kris, translation and application of technical terms is difficult and there is a need for improvement.

Question that I have is do you have any technical training or background?

The reason I ask that my experiences of translated technical manuals, one needs knowledge to translate them into usable manuals.

One aspect in particular would be manuals involving CNC (Computerized Numerical Equipment) controls.

Now the ladder diagrams is good, that is pretty universal (the symbols). the language translation for troubleshooting needs improvement. such as instructions to back up parameters and such.

The problem what I have seen is the translators have no technical background, and during translation they would translate their perception of what is needed and by doing so translate with the lack of a better word garbage. A experience operator/engineer usually with time can decipher the issues. But it is difficult.

But I do understand, having a translator and one with technical background is difficult.

As Kris indicated, there clearly is a need for such translators. On the other hand, from my experience, I believe the translator needs to have the 'translate TO' language and local dialect as their native tongue, or be extremely well educated in technical use of that language and dialect. American English is my native language. I've been speaking Spanish about 30% of the time for over 40 years, yet my written Spanish still is obviously Gringo.

I'd rejoice to find a well-translated manual from any foreign language!

The logic is sound, but our OP may be safer to simply request people to mail him via the CR4 Private Message system. If he posts his e-mail address he risks a deluge of spam.

I'll give you a GA for that, qsuhas, but add that the OP should be careful. Perhaps set up an e-mail address just for this particular place ? I've not directly heard of anyone encountering problems from posting an e-mail address, but CR4 gets trawled for them just the same as any other forum. If I remember correctly, admin also advise against doing so. Personally, if I were in the OP's position I'd chance it, but using a newly created e-mail account that I can ditch if things go bad.

If the OP (sorry, I forgot your name and can't see it in the editor box ) invested a little time in creating a web page it may be worthwhile. It can be done reasonably easy/cheap, and they could promote it with greater clarity/information than a post here allows. The OP (sorry again !), could mention the web address for their service in the space allocated under all their posts on CR4.

You might try submitting a resume to TBEA. Their North American operations are relatively small at this point; ripe oppertunity to pick up an industry skilled bi-lingual such as yourself.
