Bi-directional Stainless Steel Ball or angle valve for Transfrmr Oil Tank drain

12/16/2006 4:54 AM

I have few 20 years old Oil Transformers in our plant. Its drain valve have been damaged and we are going to replace all old drain valves.

We want to replace it with a multipurpose valve. I will be obliged if some body guide us on the availability of "Manual operated,Bi-directional Stainless Steel, Ball type valve or angle type valve, Reversed handle/quarter turn handle, for 1 meter Oil head service, size 1 ¼" dia and flanged end valve".

This valve ( Multipurpose) shall be used simultaneously for following three purposes :

1. For regular Transformer oil tank sampling of oil as and when required.

2. For draining of transformer oil from its tank as and when required.

3. For re-filling the Transformer Oil Tank after the Oil was corculated thro a centrifuge to eleminate water presence and de-hydrating.

1.The major worry is damage to the valve and corrosion from the hot transformer oil.

2. Be sure the grade of stainless and valve packing is compatable with hot transformer oil. If the transformer has dioxin in its oil that is another worry in relation to the quality of the valve.

3. Are the valves in question protected by a shield of some sort to protect them from damage? Also it would be prudent to put a second valve in line with the first one for safetys sake and be sure to buy valves that can be locked with a pair of locks of some kind if you plumb in two valves in series as it is an added level of safety.

Click on the GlobalSpec logo at the top right hand corner of this page and do a search on "ball valve". It will give you the names of over 900 manufacturers, if you refine the search on the next page to stainless steel ball valves you will have over a thousand products to choose from. One of them is bound to suit you application.

Dear friend,

that is another big problem, i.e. to choose one valve from the thousand products.

What we wanted was the vendor to specify a valve which satisfy all our specified requirements. That is some thing standard normally used for Transformer Oil drain services.

But on browsing what I get is:

SS Ball valve full port or standard port - I dont know which one is better to choose.

Valve body of one piece or Two piece or Three piece - I dont know which one will be better to choose and why (It would have been easier for me if that would have been a ladies swim suit)

They have various various valve seats to choose from - metal, PTFE etc. - Now it becomes difficult to choose

Although the ball valve is specified as Stainless Steel but the parts are defined as ASTM 351 etc. etc. - Now to select amongst these becomes a problem.

I will be thankfull of all the gurus for any further guidance..............

Thanks and regards.

Once you get the list of companies that manufacture stainless ball valves if you click on the companies name it will take you to a page that has an email link to that company. I would use this to send an email detailing your problems the 4 or 5 companies that produce the greatest variety of stainless valves. I would also send an email to the companies that manufacture custom valves. I am sure one of them will be able to help you.

VKJ

Contact Worchester or TBV both of which are manufacturers of 3 way or divertor ball valves. Durco manufactures plug valves which would be able to be ported in divertor or three way valves configurations.
