Wanted: C-Type Clamp With Electrohydraulic Screw

08/31/2009 12:05 AM

need a "c" type clamp with an electro hydraulic "screw" approx. 6" jaw and the same depth for mobile car and truck mechanics. Typical use is to dissemble driveshaft "u" joints and re assemble same. A manual "twist handle" type clamp is an arm buster...typical pressures needed under a "ton". The "c" clamp is easily handled to move around the "work" rather trying to manipulate large, heavy driveshafts into a "fixed" press. I would pay up to $3oo. or more for such a unit...the air motor would only require less than 120lbs pressure thru a 3 eigths i.d. line is there some thing out there already ????

Here is a tool like that the OTC has built for many years. http://www.amazon.com/OTC-7249-Ball-Joint-Service/dp/B0002SRGXY This tool is great for automotive universal joints used in cars & light trucks. If you are looking for something to do universal joints in medium duty & heavy duty trucks then take a look at these tools. http://www.tigertool.com/ Both of these tools are used with an air impact wrench

Yeah BWrench, I sent off for that OTC big ole' Clamp thingee for ball joints. That other one for HD looked pretty neat too!!! Say on that 92 Bronco full size, it had one of those double Kardan joints.....boy, it was real touchy getting it all together, making sure all the mini needles in that little "hemisphere" were lined up,, the little spring, then swingin' it all "in" without knocking any needles loose was really hard.....hey, but the job paid off pretty good. I gotta be careful, cuz my regular "c" clamp was trying to smash down the grooves on the keepers. I hope this new tool will do better. (bruise ing , narrowing the groove) 2.) after i got the shaft all put together, I greased all my joints and checked for smooth movement( were not bound up) After a test drive on the freeway, I went under and felt the tempretures of each joint....they all felt pretty hot, hotter than the transfer case or the rear end, so I am wondering why they should be hot, cuz they were not tight on the bench???? The shaft runs about 5" from the muffler which was smokin from excess "U"joint grease....oh well. I checked my own service truck "u" joints when I got home and they were a lot cooler than my customers double Kardan setup...just new probably....I showed my customer my hanging tin "u" joint heat shields that i installed on my '99 F350 4wd 7.3 dually....he may have me put shields on his??? whaddaya think BWRENCH?

Hi Marty M, Sounds like you are 'enjoying yourself! I hate messing with needle rollers. I just get them in what I think is the right angle and one falls out. Depends on the situation really, but, whatever, they are not the easiest thing to handle?

I thought it was lucky finding those C type hydraulic clamps, though I forget if they are 'Electra-hydraulic'? Hardly matters if they work, right?

Take care.

Hello Marty M,

Thank you for your kind reply post. I hope you find something you are able to use by way of a clamp.

With regard to the Motto's or sayings, you can choose your own and type it into your profile. Glad you like mine. It does seem kind of 'apt' when it comes to some of the discussions. It really is the case that doing is understanding.

Take care and get ready to give help to other seeing as you are a member?
