SOFTENING OF POLYURETHANE FOAM

09/07/2009 1:39 AM

WE USE POLYURETHANE FOAM FOR INSULATION IN REFRIGERATOR.

CHEMICAL USED IS : ELASTOPOR MH 1031 C-A (4,4 DIPHENYLMETHANE DIISOCYANATE(MDI)

: LUPRANAT M20 S (POLYOL)

: CYCLO PENTANE(BLOWING AGENT)

SOMETIMES SHAPE OF OUTER BODY OF THE REFRIGERATOR BECOMES IRREGULAR DUE TO NON UNIFORM FLOW OF THE ABOVE FOAMING CHEMICALS.

IS THERE ANY SOLUTION TO SOFTEN THE RIGID FOAM FOR REMOVING FROM THE REJECTED CABINETS.

You need to foam the cavity with an inner and outer lining, so that nothing can make bumps on the surface. Then the urethane must be a little slower curing, so it stays more flexible and flows into all the crevices and is a uniform foam.

A friend of mine makes fridges this way. The inner lining and outer shell are foamed en-situ with removable bracing.

Rapid refrigeration.

Try solvents like ethyl / butyl acetate[ ester solvents], ketone based solvents like MEK OR ACETONE , using a pad or fabric to soak out the hard resin solublize it and remove by gentle scratching.
