Old Motor Replacement

09/08/2009 11:48 PM

Hi

We have an old motor of following specification

800 KW, 744 rpm, p.f. 0.82, 6.3 KV AC Slipring Motor

Its No load current is 42 A

Its full load current is 54 A

We need to replace this motor with a smaller one.

Can any body suggest how to do and which KW motor would suit us?

Are these current ratings as observed?

As per these values your Full Load power is just about 500KW.

Try to know the connected load and its demand (KW) at the full load condition from your existing motor and then only you can select the motor. However it is always preferable to put a higher size motor, since in your application, your starting torque requirement will be quite high (bringing the mill from stand still condition it is mill isn't it?)

Better may be to put some pf compensator to improve the pf and that itself will improve your performance.

I have seen these (larger sizes) fitted with approx 3MW SQIM when the demand on FL is only half of it.

the current ratings are observed for this motor used for sand mill

i appreciate your ideas as it has to be reduced to a lower KW.

further the motor originally had a feed of 45 tons per hour that is now reduced to 7 tons per hour. media used is stone with arm of gravity about 0.609. and sand mill length and width are 12.87 m and dia about 2.3 m respectively
