If condensate extraction pumps(CEP) trips & steam turbine condenser vaccum moved to positive side pressure what will happen?

The thermal efficiency of the turbine system will fall, up to the point where it becomes backed-up with condensate. At that point, anything from a stalled turbine to catastrophic and irrevocable self-disassembly of parts or all of it may be expected.

Dear Mr. pjkbalaji,

If condensate extraction pumps(CEP) trips, what is needed is the stand-by condensate extraction pump should instantly start. If not, the condensate HIGH level protection system MUST trip the turbine.:

Otherwise:

1. The condensate level will build up further, fall in vaccuum (as you mentioned) will lead to more steam demand for the same power level of output, leading to vicious circle. Perhaps condensate may enter in to the rotor blade area

2. Water Hammering effect with in the condenser will develop severely.

3. Cause damage to the tubes in the condenser, and may get loosened from the tube plate

4. Severe Vibration of the Turbine Rotor will set in

5. May lead to catastropic disaster.

As an Engineer, operating the plant you donot even think like this.
