Undoubtedly, if both are in same location.
Whether it is the Engine or the alternator, both are designed for highest efficiancy at the rated load. Anything in either side will reduce its efficiency. And at half load, it may be significantly lower.

Totally agree regarding optimum efficiency, but your 1000 kVA unit will still only be running at 75%.

Consider adding a battery pack to "absorb" and store the remaining 250 kVA, designed for say, a 6-8 hour operating lifespan.

That way, your 1000 kVA generator could shut down for a couple of hours for basic service, or just to save fuel. AND you would be able to carry the load with your 500 kVA generator and the batteries long enough to get a replacement or repair made if the 1000 kVA unit goes down unplanned.

The increased fuel efficiency would help but will not pay for this right away, but the safety of a full back-up system might be invaluable.

Dear Friend,

You have mentioned you are using two generator on 50% load or that is to say. 1000 kva unit is used for generating 500 kva while other gives you 250 Kva. Of course efficiency of fuel will be best at full load.so suppose you run only one 1000 kva and shut off other, you will have power met and fuel saved.Let 500KVA be on standbye duty.annual saving will be substential.

Hi dineshpandit80,

Yes, definitely you can save fuel and consumables ($$$$) as what I'm doing now with my 2 DG set. The cost per kWhr dropped to 8%.

1000 Kva will always be working as you will be getting 750 Kva total load. (hoping that the load will not exceed more than 100% for long) as this will cause for overloading and overheating of course. if that the case you then need the 2 DG set up with synchronization and load sharing control so the other DG will help in such situation.

Kind regards

Roman
