How to Buy a Rotary Hammer

09/17/2009 3:39 AM

We are going to buy some used Rotary Hammer in the second hand market because the price is very cheap. But we need to chose there.

What mast we check before we buy ?? What part Rotary Hammer we need to check carefully and what mark ( Mikita , hilty, bosch....) or model of past production is really convenient to buy always speaking for used one.

Also we need to know how to take care of a Rotary Hammer... for example how to clean Replacement Dust Cover or Dust Protection Shield etc or what kind of lubricant for gear need to use ??

In the past we didn't take care at all of our Rotary Hammer.

Please if you have time respond

Thank for you time and care

Have a nice time

All the best

My personal preference is Hilti, these are well made, reliable, and have good power to weight performance. Check motor operation and listen for any 'noises' that might indicate wear in the bearings. The brushes may also need some attention, but this is an inexpensive fix, if all else is equal.

Regarding the care of the tool, you can clean any dust out after use with a shot of compressed air, also remember to apply a small amount of grease to the chuck end of your bits.(lithium bearing grease works, or you can buy grease from the tool Manufacturer)

The most important thing,in my mind, is to SELECT THE RIGHT BIT FOR THE JOB!!!

and LET THE TOOL DO THE WORK!!! Don't Force It

Good Luck!

Hi IngEli

Watch for oil or grease leakage between motor and chuck. If it has been run in the past without oil/grease it will be stuffed and will not chisel.

The other thing is:- how much pull is required on the trigger? My one takes over 4kg pull and, on one finger, after awhile, it hurts ! Also check for trigger lock (that my one hasn't got cos' it's cheap) as this would help!

Good luck with it!
