Hello Kumaresnk:

I'm not sharp enough on tuning the PID's to be of much help, so I will be following this discussion with interest. I did find a link that may help you however, and I'll be practicing to sharpen my skills today.

You should be able to find all the answers to your questions if you read

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PID_controller

Auto-tuning PID controllers are preferred with systems that have LONG time constants (typically thermal). Otherwise you will be tuning manually for DAYS. Been there, done that, never again!

Hi there,

I don't think you should be tuning any loops.

Kp - Proportional action

Ki - Integral action

Kd - Derivative action.

You need to supply much more information on your controller type. We would need to know if the controller is an ideal, series or parallel algorithm? Is the proportional action really proportional or is it actually gain?

Is the integral action measured in repeats per second or seconds per repeat.

As you can see - loop tuning is not something that can just be taught over the net. I suggest you have a look at some of the case studies on this web site. It might give you a better understanding.
