This will depend on the actual chain you are using, but here's one set of guidelines.

GA to you all I would have been able to tell him is a chain driven sport bike can go about 250mph on the right bike but no idea as to what that would transfer to in chain speed.

  • The drive gear on the pedal axle of a bicycle does about 75-90rpm maximum depending on the operator.
  • The speed of the chain increases with increasing gear diameter.
  • The diameter of the gear wheel is related to the chain link pitch and the number of teeth per gear-wheel.

The rest is arithmetic. Oh, and π (pi) is not needed.
