Whether Current produced goes waste if not consumed

When current is produced in a power plant and never used downstream (like switching off to protect environment / load required is suddenly less than usual for sometime) etc, what happens to the current produced already ?

Current is not produced unless it is demanded. There is a quiescent power consumption in generators when there is no load, but it's a small percentage of the typical power delivered.

A power plant is capable of delivering any power upto its rated power. And power is Voltage x Current. Current is consumed only when it is used. As such, if there is no current, there is no power either. The power plant just floats.
