Welding Rod for Ni20Cr2 Casting

10/06/2009 3:10 AM

I'm currently repairing a worn-out seawater pump casing. I need to weld-overlay the area where the wear ring seat and remachine it to original wear ring dimension. the problem is i cannot find suitable welding rod for the the casing material FGSNi20Cr2, or maybe its reallly not available.

Here's the average chemical composition of the casting from the Material Certificate

C- 2.69%, Si-2.8%, Mn-0.9%, P-0.025%, Ni-20.1%, Cr-2.3%, Cu-0.06%

I need advise from someone who encountered same application or from welding specialist or Welding rod supplier.

Dear Sir,

You may proceed for welding with softweld 99Ni or softweld 55Ni of LINCOLN ELECTRIC COMPAN.Ist you go for WPS/PQR & welder qualification then may proceed for welding.

With best regards,

Anil

Dear friend,

before starting the welding pre-heating will be must and after welding control cooling is required so please component should be covered with dry sand or fire proof blanket to avoid any cracking.

post weld heat treatment is also required.

Hello Anil,

I've contacted Lincoln Application Engineer and he recommended 99Ni also, preheating to 250 C and controlled cooling

Thanks very much and good luck

Ed
