Supporting fixture

10/05/2009 10:12 PM

I am in need of conceptual design for a fixture. We are trying to find a concept of fixture were it has to take a load of 8 ton. With this fixture we will be lifting the load (dead mass)which is on the top flange.

The component is as follows. There are two flanges for the main comp1 (top & bottom). Top flange is proturuded outward than the bottom. Main comp1 rests on bottom flange. On main comp1 there is comp2 which can silde vertically. A fixture to be used to support the hyd unit so to lift the comp2 vertically. Fixture position should be away from both the flanges.

Constrain or difficulty is, it has to be mounted between two flanges (top & bottom) & able to sustain the load of 8 ton. Bolting mechanism can be done but again the bolt size are specified as M20 10.9 grade which does not support the weight. More advantage would be to design a fixture without the use the hardwares i.e. hook type mechanism if possible.

Can any one guide, suggest or share the ideas or thought so how to build the same? For any more details please feel free to discuss.

Is this factory roof fitted or what ?

8 ton is not impossible, but you need to give more detail. Any chance you can sketch up what you mean ?

"need of conceptual design for a fixture"

I will be glad to help as I speciallise in providing conceptual designs for unusual requirements. Please visit www.artecrobotics.com and respond with name of the item you are handling.I have handled heavy lifts upto 120 tonnes and lowered weights of 1200 tonnes.

May I suggest positioning 4 Hydraulic jacks of 5 tonne capacity (all connected to a common header and single pump)?. The jacks should be mounted on 4 support brackets either welded or bolted to the bottom most component at the 50 meter height.
