Each person learns differently.

I taught myself, first by purchasing programming in "C", choose between Borland and MS, I had bought the Borland compiler because it was cheaper. and worked from there.

Haven't check but I am sure there are compilers out their to try your programs.

I had taken previous programming courses (basic, lisp and some assembly) in college to have an idea of the syntax. But the structured different. after using it for a while I took a night course to reinforce myself.

I suggest taking a class at a local institution of higher learning.

But If you just want to teach yourself, you could start here, here, here or even here.

Good luck!

When you say you are a beginner, are you saying that you are a beginner in programming in higher level languages, or are you a beginner in programming? If you have some experience in programming I wonder why you wouldn't just jump into C++, you are probably going to wind up there if C is your language of choice.

If you are in fact new to programming you need to put some time into finding out what language is suitable for your purposes. One thing you will find is there are some extremely talented people on the internet that give of their knowledge freely and profusely. Just type in "how to program in C, C++, Java, PHP, Perl, Python, Java-script etc " and you will be provided with some of the best talent in the world free of charge and you can learn at your own pace.

If you need a structured environment most of the community colleges offer credit and non credit courses. I have tried some of the online courses and found them to be about as structured as I need or care to deal with.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
