Injection Molding Stavax Material

10/14/2009 11:21 AM

Hi Everyone,

We are running thermoset injection molding. We have made the insert with stavax material and heating up until 160 degree celsius.

The problrm we are facing is getting crack in the inserts.Sofar we have changed one insert due to crack but again we are getting the same problem in the new inserts.

Is stavax material suitable for running with 160 degree celsius?

Please advice us.Your feedback will be very useful for us.

Thank you

Your using of what particular thermoset material? If you are using a glassfilled content you need to use a high carbon material content. eg; ASP23, If not you can use an ELMAX material...

Hi,

The temperature should not be a problem. 16o degrees is not high for tool steel and Stavax ESR has probably been tempered at 250 degrees at least.

There are a lot of things except tool material which are important when there are cracking problems. It can give some idea to the reason if one finds out where the crack starts, some weak point or sharp radii or similar.

I do not believe that Elmax is the solution. It has a better wear resistance than Stavax ESR, because of hardness achieved and different structure. However the toughness is lower.

I recommend you to contact closest Uddeholm office for more advice.
