RTD Cable Shield Connection

We are using 8 triad cable for the connection between the Multilin 469 relay and Motor winding RTD. There is the terminal of shield connection to the relay side but no terminal available in the motor side. Do we need to leave the shield unconnected in the motor side? The Cable length is almost 600 feet.

Please help.

Yes, you must ONLY connect the shield at one end.

A ground loop condition occurs when two or more electrical paths exist in a ground line.If the shield connects to both chassis grounds, this will be creating current path to flow from one ground to another since both grounds have different potentials.

The current flowing through the shield could be as high as severalamperes, which would induce significant magnetic fields in the signal transmission. This could create interference that would result in a possible misreading of the analog signal.

To avoid this problem, the shield should be connected to ground on only one side of the chassis, preferably the controller side.
