Bush Material Question (En31)

01/01/2007 2:43 AM

MHi,

In general, En31 is used as bush material.

I just want to know the material superior than En31

How about using En353 and 20MnCr5

Wishing a Happy New Year to all members

Best regards

jk

Sorry.

Let's try to keep the CR4 dialog slightly above the Rosie Odonnell level.

Now now Ken, haven't you heard that a pre requisite of becoming an engineer is that you are not allowed to have a sense of humour! I did rather enjoy the comment though (please don't tell my chief). I seem to remeber a comment made in an official report by an officer concerning one of his subordinates during WW 2 and I quote.."This man is depriving a village of an idiot!"

Maybe English is not your primary language. I think you may mean BRUSH material not BUSH material. There is a lot of difference!

Hi milky

En31 grade is used for making Bushes in jigs.

En353 and 20MnCr5 are case hardening steels.Definitley these two will give a better life.

Lubrication and surface roughness are also matters a lot.

Hi jk,

I feel that you should use OHNS ie OIL HARDENED NON SHRINKABLE STEEL.

I have experienced better life and better wear resistance and better surface finish with this material. This is through hardening steel.

Hope you will find better results.

YOU SHOULD STINK to the original bush material

as a harder material will wear the shaft instead of the bush

so dont be the village idiot

Hi JK,

Please tell what is the hardness of the bush and where exactly it is used, mention its size like Outer / Inner Diameter & length & unit of measurement.

If you cannot mention where it is used, just simulate it to a nearest example and reply, so that i can suggest you the right material.

With regards

Yatish

If you had described your application with a little more background--- saying "Bushes for use in Stamping Dies,in Closed-Dies for forging,in Jigs" etc., comment like #2,#3 etc could have been avoided.

If these are indeed your applications, Tool and Die Steel Tables tell all. Or in British Standards(EN Steels)

If you wanted Bearing bushes--you needed Bronzes, Sintered or alloyed. Certainly not heat treatable Hi C, Hi Cr steels.
