Synchronous Machine - 50Hz to 60Hz

Hello,

anything should i consider if i want to run syn machine 60 hz which used to run at 50 hz at power station.

No,but you can run the machine by connecting a Ac drive. By connecting your 60 HZ M/C you can run but not at full speed. you will get only the M/c rated speed/60 X50.

syn, machine means ?is it Generator u are referring or any motor?

Friend, syn machine has been designed in order to get maximum benifits at minimum maintenance.

But I do not recommend for this.

Do you remember this formula: N=120*f/P

Where N= speed in rpm

f= frequency

P= No. of poles

So for 4Poles at f=50Hz, N=1500rpm;

similarly for 4Poles at f=60Hz, N=1800rpm.

Hence, we need to run this machine at high speed, the probable problems occurs are:

1. Vibration

2. Failure of bearing

3. more forces over over hangs of rotor.

4. Probable chances of rubbing between rotor and stator.

I feel I have answered your question.
