Paxton Supercharger drives (AKA McCullough)

10/17/2009 11:16 AM

"Once upon a time" there was a supercharger manufacturer in neighboring Pennsylvania named McCullough (AKA-Paxton)> One of theirs was a belt driven centrifugal blower equipped with a two speed drive. When the blower got to certain RPM, a bunch of ball bearings in the drive hub(in what I suspect may have been a sprague type clutch) would rise up from centrifugal force and engage a collar(?) with a different drive ratio. Their last visible commercial success was on the Studebaker Golden Hawk. As far as I can remember when Studebaker went down, the Paxton supercharger was not seen again, at least not as a production option from a car company. I'm trying to find engineering drawings so I might emulate the concept for a two speed drive of my own. Thanks for responding

I appreciate those links and I'm aware of this supplier. However, I am not looking for a supercharger. What I'm looking for is engineering data on the design of the two stage drive unit for an entirely different application.

Thanks.
