Interesting Quadruped Robot

01/02/2007 3:49 PM

Boston Dynamics has developed a quadruped rough terrain robot that they call "Big Dog." It's about the size of a big dog (clever naming, eh?) and can carry a 120 lb load, trot at 3.3 mph, and climb a 35 degree slope. This video shows Big Dog in operation. It's especially impressive when it's kicked and recovers its balance. The robot is hydraulically actuated and is powered by a gasoline engine.

Possible uses? (besides trotting along behind me carrying my stuff when I'm backpacking - although they'll have to do something about the noise!).

Reminds me of a couple of rugby players in a ruck!

Judging by your avatar, it must have been a rough new years eve. Hope the year goes well.

Na, that's from talking till I'm blue in the face with the perpetual motion machine lunatics this site seems to attract. Either that or it's the ever increasing levels of atmospheric CO2 from burning all those fossil fuels. It was originally black, then it turned red after arguing with one for a week and finally blue with blood shot eyes after a particularly frustrating series of threads.
