I think you mean the temper is reduced due to the heating process during welding. to make a correct weld you have to have a specific temperature and pressure this is a fixed requirement.

You might be passing more current than is required , check this with some different settings to see if the power can be reduced. Also the heating area is usually restricted to a small section either side of the weld, I assume you are not trimming at the weld but are having feed problems due to the softer section, try to adjust your feed system to give the band more support.

Especially not knowing the grade and heat treat staus of the material to begin with.
