hi does anyone know where i can get extra long bits for standard makita kango hammer.i need it to get out flue liners embedded in concrete in chimney shafts,.,.regds mike
Now, there is a dirty job. Makita may have encountered this problem before. Since this needs a similarly hardened extension, it might be possible to have a welding shop fabricate one by cutting one with a grinder and inserting a piece of hardened rod of the needed length, which is then welded, ground flush, and a reinforcing collar that was previously threaded on the shaft, moved down over the weld and welded at both ends.
This has a good chance of having enough strength for the task.
Another way is to look for their specialized bits for the mining industry, which often requires long bits.
yeh i have tried your ideas ,.as u say it shud be easy ,.i just wonder do makita not have or similar company not manufacture SPECIALS,.,.if i do not get somthign soon i will have to go back and do what u recommed more carefull thanks so much .,mike
I saw a TV show the other day where they had to remove clay liners from a chimney. There as a steel triangle about 0.5-0.75 inches thick and about 5 inches on a side. A shaft was welded onto the triangle so that it was off -centre. The shaft was attached to heavy duty drill (with the possibility of adding extensions) As the thing rotated it bashed the tiles to pieces and they accumulated in the basement fireplace. Periodically they had to add an extension shaft as this operation was performed from the top while the worker was standing on the roof.

hi,,,usually the liners that casue me trouble are set in concrete which is not correct building practice. and each liner as to be painfully worked on. i usually have to cut holes in walls to get at the award ones..i wonder what size drill did they use,.if i had longer chisel bits with slight bend and with cut out like nail bar it would be of help ,.,regds mike
I guess someone has to suggest this. Have you considered adding a stainless steel liner to the existing chimney? Sure saves a lot of demolition and rebuilding.
but its not as long lasting as vitrous firclay liners.
also terrible difficult pullling down through old liners as tar and soot build up impedes easy installation. and to have correct sizing its most difficult,.,..regds mike
I really need the Kango Hammer Model please, or the diameter of the hammer bits.
What exactly do you use this for and what size flue, minimum size do you need to work on that you cannot reach with the 'standard' hammer bits.

Just to make things easier, can you tell me exactly what Model number of Makita you have please? The bits vary a whole lot and when someone it trying to hire out or sell Tools, they very rarely advertise, "Standard" anything. It is always, super, or strong, immensely powerful etc............ Think you get my drift?
