Lower the condenser temperature and pressure.

Dear Mr. PWSlack,

First thanx for ur reply.

Actually the problem is turbine is not in running position. We have to carry out it's solo run (it's new one and we have to commission it). and we have found water water from turbine casing drain. So in this case what we need to do..is drying with air an option?

regards

"Drying" the unit will be an exercise in futility; as soon as steam is admitted, it will condense. Leave the condensate drains open until until water stops flowing.

Drying of a steam turbine & condenser are activities that are determined by the duration of the projected shutdown after operation.

If the turbine is to be restarted again very soon after shutdown then leaving the drains open and allowing the condensate to drain is perfectly acceptable.

Startup procedures normally include a heat up process that if properly written and followed will allow the condensate that collects during the start up to drain until the turbine is at temperature such that the drain system will be placed in automatic mode for condensate removal by inner stage drains. Keep in mind that in large steam turbines, there is always inner stage condensate, meaning that by design the inner stage drains will always be removing some condensate.

If the turbine is to be shutdown for long term, for 60 to 90 days, as for an outage, it maybe necessary to place the turbine in "dry layup". This typically would include establishment of a hot air purge. Which includes opening of a manway or large inspection cover, typically in the main condenser boot area, installation of a heated air purge to the area boot. Thus, any condensate will eventually be dried through out the machine.
