Temperature Data - Locomotive Type Boiler

11/09/2009 6:26 PM

Can anyone supply me with temperature data pertaining to a locomotive type boiler, in particular, through a cross-section of the firebox wall, starting from the furnace side and progressing, via the metal wall of the firebox, into the water space.

What are the expected temperatures on either side of the firebox wall of an typical functioning locomotive type boiler?

Replies will be appreciated.

The water in the boiler away from the heating surfaces will be equal to the saturation temperature at the saturation pressure. This figure may be derived from published steam tables.

Other temperatures are a complex function of the combustion process, the metallurgy and thicknesses of the firebox material, the amount, type and thickness of the scale on the water side of the heating surfaces, and the water chemistry. Any data will, therefore, be particular to the boiler and the circumstances in which it is to be found.
