Replacing the Plastic Cover on a Husqvarna 55

11/10/2009 8:19 AM

I have a broken clutch or chain brake cover on my Husqvarna 55, and a solid, serviceable plastic cover to replace it.

How do I deal with the preloaded spring, so I can move the brake mechanism to the serviceable cover? (I sure like Stihl's brake system!)

If it looks like one of those spring loaded assemblies that would spit its parts all over the garage (I just took this one clip out and all these parts came flying out) you might take it to a dealer. It may require special tooling.

It is difficult without special tools but can be accomplished using a couple of screw drivers to wedge it back into place. I acidentally dislodged mine at one point and put it back together. I actually had to take it back apart and reinstall it again. Just be careful, wear eye protection and have a clear area around you so you can locate parts in case they fly away from you in the process.

Hello pricecase, There was a long description on Husquvarna chain brake service on CR4. here is a picture follow up 1 and follow up 2. And last but not least is CR4 search. Hope these links help you with your repair.

As to keeping small parts from flying all over the shop use a large cardboard box big enough for your part and hands to work in and make a window to look through to work in. If things go flying most likely it all will stay inside of the box. Reminder just to tape up all seams so no small part gets trap behind a flap in the box.

And remember to wear eye protection.

OH, BTW here is a service parts list with diagrams for your saw. At least if you need a part you will have the numbers when you go to the repair center.
