Cosmos 1 "Solar Sail" Mission Fails

06/22/2005 6:21 AM

Cosmos 1, the solar sail project reported here a few days ago, was unsuccessful. The solar sail was unable to deploy due to booster rocket failure. Although US scientists believe they may have detected signals from the Cosmos 1, no one is sure exactly where it is. The Russian Defense Ministry has launched a search for debris from the booster and the vehicle.

Booster problems

I think this also happened during the first test. How much money have they wasted on Russian launches? maybe they should just pony up the cash to have NASA launch it.
