Why wouldn't you just use a KWh meter? Is this a homework question?

KWH = V I CosΦ

so put a volt meter, an ammeter and a powerfactor meter.

Alternately the OP can count slowly One hundred and One, One hundred and Two (each correspond to 1 second )

You can not accurately measure it however once you have the voltage current and PF meter you can calculate the power .Once you get the power you can multiply by the time.The problem when you have varrying load.Then some body has to take the reading very frequenly.

If the load is constant the above idea works with less accuracy.

Try an another method. if you don't have any other.

This method is very global. You can not directly calculate accurate kilowatts.

However try to measure the fuel consumption values for a certain loads, of which their kilowatts are known, by making several experiments.

Therefore try to create a diagram for produced kilowatts against fuel consumption values.

Variation of fuel consumption per hour, against kilowatt load per hour is almost linear.

How to calculate energy units( Kwh) for 125 KVA DG set without having KWh meter

Assuming a power factor of 0.8

Kwh is Kilowatt Hour.This means 1kw is being used for 1hr.(this is equal to 1 unit). If we use 8kw for 5hrs that will be 40kwh. (and this will be 40 units)

You multiply KVA by Power factor to obtain KW, and multiply KW by 1 Hour to obtain one KWH, so, KWH means 1 KWH.

125kva by 0.8 by 1hr equals 100kwh. Therefore, the energy used (consumed) by the generator set for 1hr is 100kwh.

Also the energy consumed for 2hrs is 200kwh, and the energy consumed for 8hrs is 800kwh (800units)

Notice if we are using watts or kilowatts, we are speaking about POWER.

If we are using kwh (where time is involved) we are speaking about ENERGY.

The units referred to are the units of electrical energy that the utility company charges.
