Help with some questions asap pleeaase

11/25/2009 7:27 PM

You have just been hired as a technician at a plastic food container manufacturing company. you are attached to the instrumentation dept which is responsible for maintaining the control loops of the plant.

1) explain what specific pieces of info yuo would attempt to gain in the first few weeks ofyour employment in order to help you in your job and why you think this would be required.

2) some of the operators hav been complaining about the performance of the plant and have said that the control loop for maintaining the temperature of the oven needs tuning. as a recent graduate they are looking for your assistance.

explain, in detail, the specific pieces of information you would attempt to gain and the steps you would take to determine the cause of the problem. if indeed it is determined to be a loop tuning problem, explain how you would go about tuning the loop and how you would determine that the tuning was satisfactory for all upsets in the process.

3) you have observed that some operators prefer to run some loops in manual mode, while others prefer automatic. discuss the advantaged and disadvantages of each mode and when each mode is appropriate.

thank you for any help possible

Your last question you asked was regarding where to do a course on instrumentation, and that was only two weeks ago! Now you are asking what looks like either a boilerplate set of homework or job interview questions (both of which seem odd given the point made above and the level of complexity of the questions, unless you are looking for a job in the instrumentation field with whatever qualifications and experience you have at the time).

Is this a general interest set of questions or something more sinister?

One mfr of PID controllers (both manual and autotune), Partlow, used to have a good manual that explained how to "bump" a controller, measure its response time, and calculate suitable tuning values. This is too long ago for me to remember details, but maybe this manual still exists; it explained things quite well.
