Manual vs Automatic mode tuning

im trying to find out some advantages and dis-advantages of each tuning mode.

Manual: one learns from the experience. The process may not necessarily respond well to the learning experience, though....

Automatic: the controller does it itself and requires no user input. It's much faster. The process is protected to a greater extent, though the user won't learn too much about how to do it from the experience.
