Self motivation is taking the appropriate action with out any "pressure" from others, even when you do not want to get up and do it. You need to make a conscious decision to do whatever needs doing to reach your goals without having to be told to do so.
As found in WIKI : Self motivation is the ability to motivate yourself, to find a reason and the necessary strength to do something, without the need of being influenced to do so by another person. Working in a careful and consistent manner without giving up.

In my recent life I have had many reasons to just give up and few reasons to keep going. No matter how overwhelming it gets I always look at a picture of my children and am motivated to find the will to push harder. The futures of my children are my long term goals so I create short term goals to step higher regularly because without me they have no one stable to depend on.
You need to find what stimulates you to succeed and keep reaching.

Some of the worst disasters in history (and my life too) came from far to much motivation and far to little thought put forth before and during it! Some times just explains it best!
Some people may need motivational speakers to get them pumped up and going but unfortunately there are others also who would likely benefit society far more had there been more un motivational speakers around to tell them to just sit down and be quiet!
I would have to agree. Motivational speakers,for the most part,are just profiteers looking to make a buck and don't really care about the end result. And most of them are just plain old annoying!
