Wanted: Ball Bearing 12.6*28*8

12/05/2009 4:17 AM

Hello.

I am looking for bore 12.6 mm O.D. 28 mm width 8 mm (single row deed groove) ball bearing but only find 12*28*8.

Maybe somebody encountered the same problem and knows where to look on the net for such a "non-standard" one (12.6 bore)? Thank you.

If you only need one or two, get it/them drilled out.

Thank you for your reply, I need 6 of them: I took them off and now am looking for their replacement.

They are on an OEM fan coils. I am afraid it is of no use to turn to the OEM - am sure they do not produce those ball bearings and would srarcely name the bearings' manufacturer.

Are there any markings on the old bearings (part numbers etc)?

What do you propose to drill it with bearings have a higher Rockwell than any type of drill bits?

WHOEVER(IT WAS NOT ME)PROPOSED TO DRILL OUT BEARINGS DOESN'T HAVE (WITH ALL DUE RESPECT!!) a clue of what bearings are made of.Now the shafting could be precision ground shafting and therefore can be machined without great difficulty.Again I state, don't go crazy!--either machine the shaft or see ntn or nachi or nsk rhp automotive bearings or phone a alternator /starter repair place and end it.!!!!

All right, no need to go OTT (and UNLESS YOU'RE SHOUTING lay off the caps key). I get the point.

I'm not a mechanical engineer - I just made a suggestion. There must be some way of enlarging the bore - spark errosion? some kind of grinding?

Otherwise, use the alternative (suggested elsewhere) - and sleeve the shaft oversize, then turn it down as required.

[Note that before my oh-so-dumb suggestion, I first spent a bit of time trying to find a correctly-sized bearing.]

I was not shouting-just bad habits in computer ediquette.no offese given just made a point-life's too short for offending people.I am also not a mechanical engineer-I just have a vast knowledge of bearings and its nomaclature.Yuri will neverfind 12.6 ever unless he likes to throw away muchoo money and get it made special. As i said before don'y go nuts.

Maybe somebody can post here links to products catalogs of the major bearing manufacturers? I found such little known as ZKL's, but my search for the reputable SKF only has brought up mountains of web thrash.

try in inch series.

25.4 looks suscpiciously abuut 1/2"

8mm must be 5/16"

Only 28mm is a bit odd, nearest is 28.5mm at 1 1/8"

try to google with this parameter if OK.

Correction

(numbers are rounded to the nearest .001")

25.4 mm= 1" not 1/2

12.6 mm= .496" just .004" inches shy of 1/2"

28mm= 1.102 not 1 1/8 which is 1.125

8mm= .0315 which is .0025 larger than 5/16

it would appear that the bearing in question is a sae bore and width with a metric O.D. providing that eithor the initial measurements are off or rounded to the nearest metric unit.

Not an uncommon thing to do depending on which unit of mesure is in common usage where the equipment is.

I don't understand why this should be such a difficult item to find. metric/sae hybrids are fairly common in many items such as bearings and fastners as many components are often made eithor here (sae) or somewhere else (metric).

1/2 inch is 12.7 mm.

My view is they intentionally have such parts produced in order to thwart repair and force the product buyer into the whole product replacement.

Will buy at Monday a 12*28*8 bearing and adding a 0.3mm thick 8 mm width tin ring will try to pull it on the shaft.

Thank you for your time guys.

Dont try to press a 0.3 ring onto the shaft, press a thicker one on to the shaft then turn to size. It will be more accurate than your method.

JohnDG link above to SKF gives a model R8-2Z: 12.7 i.d. x 28.575 o.d. x 7.938. (Clearly 1/2" x 1-1/8" x 5/16"). Is the precision of your measurements such that this might fit? (Perhaps with a bit of grinding/shimming?)

Larger motors typically specify bearing numbers on the motor nameplate, but these small fan motors may not show this.

Looks like you have an inch demension id and a metric od. I think that you have a half inch id,(.500 in) I dont have the book in front of me now but this should be available at most bearing houses in the U.S.

Have you considered either building up the shaft or machining it down to fit a standard size bearing?

you may have a 1/2" bore (12.7mm)-this combo does exist for many 6200 series ball bearings--(which is A 6001-2rs or zz)CHECK OUT NTN BEARINGS OR NSK/RHP

THERE WAS COMMENT ABOUT MACHINING THE SHAFT-IF POSSIBLE-- A CHEAP AND GREAT IDEA--I KNOW NTN HAS IT!--IT MAY BE AN AUTOMOTIVE BEARING ,LIKE FOR USE IN ALTERNATORS OR STARTERS.

BEST THING DON'T GO CRAZY!!

And in the post 9 I intended to force a 12 mm bore bearing on the 12.6 mm shaft - adding by that a ring of tin !! CR4 unfortunately gives only 15 min for taking back one's stupid words posted.

Today has bought 12.6 (ok) but 28.57 mm (not ok) b.b. The turner has taken a little off from their holders sides - which are very thin curved moldings anyway (about just 1 mm thick) - but all seems to be fine.

Will continue however searching for the right size ones (12.6 mm/ 28mm/8mm) for the other units.

Thank you for the links to (names of the) bearings manufacturers.
