Who Made CR4?

12/11/2009 5:35 PM

Sometimes about the only thing I have to give anyone is a compliment.

I am thinking of what I might give to those I love, and help me live, as we come into the season for giving, traditional in my life and culture.

I am grateful to Globalspec, as well as envious of the way CR4 works.

I offer my compliments to both Globalspec, and what individuals worked to make CR4. If there is an individual or company more responsible and worthy of credit for CR4 than any other, I'd be all for us knowing who that was, and giving them some honor during this season.

Chris Leonard is the head honcho 'round these parts. He's taking a well deserved vacation in Peru right now but I'm sure he appreciates your kind words.

Well then I hope Chris, or you, and others involved write up a bit about what you have done, and why and when as we move forward.

We ought to design a medal or a statue like the Oscar, for superior site design, and have a webnet show award ceremony.

P.S. I love it when I am described as sweet, or kind, for I am not normally understood to be so. My mother once said a compliment from me was meaningful, since I hardly ever give them out unless I mean it.

Dear Guest,

I myself have a sort of conditional thing, and I promised never to respond one way or another to two blog authors.

In those cases I have not even responded, even as a Guest, for well, it is likely my particular voice may be recognizable.

Still I am inclined to give credit where credit is due.

Obviously you are not fully banned.

Certainly if anyone on the forum is guilty of interjecting politics into a discussion, I am.

It is actually embarrassing for me to admit that when I wrote a post that got me in severe trouble with the administrators, I was crying.

(Work and money were involved.)

Hell, I got banned from my favorite bar, and didn't cry about it!

When I asked who created the site I did not know the answer.

P.S. I've beaten people up in bars in my past, and not gotten barred from the place. In the case where I was barred from this mentioned bar, I did not beat anyone up, steal anything, or knock over and break stuff. I am welcome personally and treated nicely everywhere in town, except that one place. I struggle with the issue for it is emblematic of why on a macro level, some conflicts continue forever and ever.

Kudos to Chris Leonard. I treat CR4 place for engineers beyond mortal barriers. No country, cast, religion, race barriers. When entire world is divided on millions of reasons, we shall stay united questioning & answering each other for peaceful co-existence.

That actually happened over 10 years ago. A grown man threatened my life twice, so I hit him.

Bartenters told the cops they had known me for years and never had any trouble, and had never seen this guy before.

Of course, as is typical, a woman was involved. -Was talking with old girlfriend from High School days. Hadn't seen her in years.

Respect everyone's right to have an opinion, no matter how foolish or misguided

A little retrospective of our forum would be nice

Re: Who Made CR4?

I agree that this is a special place, and would hate to loose access to it, I better read the rules,...

I like this place because I believe Engineers have a habit of being rational, logical and regardless of the emotion involved try to be "right". Even if they personally don't like the answer an Engineer will try to be right more often than a scientist. A scientist will make conclusions based on evidence and personal opinion/experience, they don't really have to make things work. An Engineer has to be right and their opinion has to work or things brake, fall down, sink, or explode. And I think this need to be right on a factual basis makes the contributors to this place more honorable.

This may also be why most on here are conservative/right, although there is more than one way to skin a cat, I'm Libertarian, I find this group to also be tollerant and willing to listen to other ways of doing doing things, because Engineers know that there is more than one way to build a house and as improvements come along the best way to do it becomes second best, things change.

Thank you CR4, its maker, and maintainers and to Transcendian for bringing this up.

Re: Who Made CR4?

Just a little aside. Sometimes I feel engineers who are in the habit of being rational and logical, and sort of expect that a logical input will produce a logical output, find that people do not necessarily act right.

I have had more than one case where I went out of my way to be nice, and try and help people who have then turned around and inexplicably to my understandings and expectations sought to damage me, and insulted me.

I can see why a fair number of engineers and scientists are prone to therefore, in light of this sort of thing, withdraw, and let those stupid people go on with their stupid lives wanting no part of the blockheads.

People are weird. Like how many times has someone asked you for advice on how to accomplish some straight forward task, and you tell them, and they say, "Well I don't want to do it that way."

We sort of see this played out now on the Grand stage. "Hey, the environment is changing! What shall we do!" Scientists say, "Maybe you ought to cut back on burning everything up?" People say, "No, tell us some other solution."

"Okay, paint every roof in the world white."

"No, that's crazy! You must work for a paint company!

I read at one time a great number of Detective stories, and often the detective would find out about the crime, and then next thing that would happen, would be the detective would be accused of committing the crime.

In fact when I actually did some detective work, and successfully found stolen property in the possession of the suspect, I was accused of stealing the stuff myself.

The thief said I stole it and planted it so as to make them look bad.

I could hardly believe it.

Finally I had to confront the thief in front of witnesses and say, "Do you really think I care that much about you, that I would steal, and plant this stuff, to make you look bad?"

I did say that one thing that is superior about much of the content and what goes on on CR4, is that we engage with each other sometimes fighting over the facts.

The simple fact as far as this Forum is concerned, is that it is extremely well designed.

If you compare it to Facebook, or Linkedin the superiority is clear so as to explain why even marginal engineers, or scientists would prefer it.

In past Chris had explained how CR4 was born. It is actually Conference Room No.4. He had given detailed history of this blog.I have been following this blog since past 2 years and have found to be highly educative for Engineers around the world.

Here you can pose a problem by asking a question and many experts with long experience in particular field suggest you solutions. Now a days where you can get such a professional service free of cost?. Consultants bill you on hourly basis. This service is sort of sharing technical expertise throughout the world no matter from where you come. I have been recommending to many of my friends to get registered for their own benefit.

Now about controversial post it is better to avoid such posts instead of getting engaged in pen wars.Well this my personal opinion.

The CR4 you see now is the third incarnation, and grew out of GlobalSpec text emails that was sent out in 2001 - hoarder that I am, I still have some of these in an email archive (although I have deleted most of them). The Challenge questions started there !

I still have a free gift sent to me back then on my desk. It still makes me smile (I might post a pic one day).

The "feel" of CR4 has always been friendly and professional, with a hint of mad. These days I spent what little time I have on CR4 in BBT (if you don't know it, I won't corrupt you) so I miss a lot of the tech stuff . The format of the site has improved over time, the content has remained at a (generally) high quality.

Chris is great and a very helpful guy, I raise a glass of Christmas beverage to him and the rest of the team for all their good, and hard, work. I salute them for their ability to keep the furry members of the community in order
