LT Generator or HT Generator?

12/16/2009 3:03 AM

I am working on a turbo generator sized at 3.5 Mwe. Is is advisable to use LT generator ( 415 V ) or HT at 11 KV. Technical and economical suggestion in selection on either HT or LT generator based on 3.5 Mwe.

Re: Generation Voltage selection

The distance from the generator to the load is a factor.

The sizing of cables for those two voltages is a factor.

The value of any step-down transformer at the load end is a factor.

The location on the planet is a factor.

The value of local labour is a factor.

check yourself cable size and number of cable runs required to handle fault currents and electrical safety protections needed that has to be catered if you go for 3.5MW Lt generator you could decide yourself

If u use LT Generator,u will be handling a heavy current of about 4869 Amps.

If u use HT Generator,u will be handling a lower current of about 183.7 Amps.

Handling lower current to do same job is safer and materials are cheaper among other reasons.

Use HT Generator

hi,

if use HT generator u will be handle lower current means low losses, less requiremet of cooling, less requirement of space, less maintenance,& cheap as compare to lt generator because of generator winding weightis low so may factors constrin & easy to transport electricity with high voltage with less line losses .

so thats why preffered HT generator
