What are you testing with a megger? Use ohm- meter to test the resitance between anode, cathode, gate. Even that is not enough I guess, you should apply the forward bais voltage and gate pulse and see whether the latching and holding current are correct.
Dear All: I just join a company where they use a procedure for testing the integrity of the power thyristors in the Power Unit. The Thyristor is Semipack 3 SKKT 20/20E from Semikron. The integrity of the forward and reverse blocking voltage of each power thyristor is checked with a 1000VDC megger by measuring its resistance. It identify those thyristors with marginal / failed blocking voltages. The megger used is Biddle 212559. The Power unit is considered defective to be defective if any of the megger readings are lower than 50 megohms. Your answer will be appreciated.
