quantity of CO2 released by burning firewood

Hello! could u please tell me how much CO2 is relased when one ton of firewood is burnt. It would be more helpful if i were known the refernce for the answer quoted from.

After doing about 3 minutes of research, it looks like ROUGHLY 1.5 tons of CO2 is produced by burning 1 ton of wood.

I have no knowledge of this myself, just reporting what I found.

Sorry but you don't have enough information and the list of information you would need would be vast for a precise number. A few of the simple details would start with:

  • How dry is the wood? How much of the ton is non-flammable material?
  • How well will the firewood be burned? Soot and charcoal is predominantly carbon and will reduce the yield of CO2.
  • What percentage of the ton's total mass is carbon?

Making a few simple assumptions to these questions one can do a quick calculation. If 40% of the wood mass is carbon and all of it gets converted to CO2, then

(mass of carbon burned)*(mass of molecule of CO2)/(mass of molecule of carbon) →

0.4 ton *(44/12)≈1.5 ton of CO2

This is only a quick calculation that assumes to much to be considered a real accurate number.
