Rectangular Pressure Vessel Design

01/07/2010 1:22 AM

Hello there,

Could anyone guide me where to locate a software/spreadsheet to design rectangular pressure vessels please. I am currently using ASME VIII Div. I Appendix 13 but it takes a lot of my effort & time.

Please assist.

Thanks.

Effort and time are what is required for design. There are no easy ways out, so get over it and do your job.

I suppose that you work on your designs using pencil, paper and perhaps even an abacus, eh?

Come on, give the guy a break, he's just looking for a way to make the process more efficient.

No, I use very expensive sophisticated software to speed up the design process. I also use a spreadsheet that I did for myself for doing the same thing that the OP was requesting. I learned more about the codes while developing the spreadsheet than at any other time.

I was a bit harsh and apologise to the OP. (grumpy old man).

I have lived and worked in Nigeria and in Port Harcourt in particular for many years. Loved the place, warts and all.

Wherever I worked I was asked for my spreadsheets etc to help the efficiency of the work process. I would not give them to anyone, I would though, give them all the help they required to develop their own. At the end of the day they looked the same as mine, but the person writing them had learned something.

How do you check the validity of your design if you use someone else's spreadsheet blindly?

My advice to the OP is the same as other posters', develop your own spreadsheet to take the tedium out of repetitive tasks.

There may not exist an off-the-shelf program for this, but you might be able write the ASME formulas into a spreadsheet program.
