Gerotor Pump Elements

01/23/2007 6:30 AM

Hi, i'm searching (unsuccessfully, so far) for sources of the internal members for small gerotor type oil pumps. The plan is to build a custom pump around stock elements.

Any help would be most welcome! Thanks!

This type of pumps are widelly used in jet engines, in single or multiple stages, specially in auxiliary power units airborne. Maybe you could contact a manufacturer like Honeywell and check if you can use some part from them. Of course, I do not know the size, flow, pressure required for your application, but as far as you mentioned "small"...

I agree Honeywell is probably a good place to look.

Judging from your CR4 name, you appear to be into automotive subjects. For some years, Ford particularly has used gearotor pumps instead of gear pumps for engine oiling. Virtually all domestic and foreign automotive crankshaft mounted oil pumps are gearotor types, but those driven from distributor shaft extensions may or may not be.

If you are looking to get gearotor rings, rotors and crescents (where applicable) at low cost, the automotive market may be the source. A number of ebay stores sell microfiche automotive parts breakdowns for less than $15.

For small pumping volumes, visit your local scrap yard, and get oil pumps (so-called "fuel units") from junked oil burners. Virtually all are made by Sunstrand and a couple of other companies, and they are gearotor types. Most for domestic use pump 3 GPH maximum at either 1750 or 3450 RPM, depending upon design. They are long lived due to operation in oil, not of the ideal viscosity, but oil nonetheless.

You could try the Walbro automotive fuel pump GSS-341. Can pump upto5 l/min at upto 6 bar I think.

dear sir,

gerotor is basically a positive displacement pump, used for oil circulation in car and truck engines, and for other similar applications. the internal gear has various lobe combinations and its width determines the quantity of oil to be pumped, along with the displacement it gives per revolution. there are different precision gears are being manufactured, amongst are PM type (Powder Metal) which has very small clearances. this reduces the internal leakages and gives consistant performance even at higher temperatures like in Indian ambient.

there are some US manufacturers who can supply the required gerotors according to ones choice.

Many thanks to all who have offered suggestions here! At one time i had in my posession a catalog (EATON i believe) that offered the gear elements only, along with dimensions including: center shaft offset, element thickness, major diameter of housing bore, & disp/rev.

It appears that at that time they were marketing just the sinterings, for custom installations. 3 employments later i no longer have the catalog, & Eaton informs me that it's no longer available. Is there any firm out there that offers an equivalent?

yes, you are right about Eaton who did manf. gerotor in pairs of various sizes. also the 'Nicholas' make used to manf in PM, to much closure tolerances. most car manf. use any size of gerotor from these manf. or their equivalent sizes manf.of other makes.

Hello,

I just joined cr4 based on the comments/queries that I had found on this website with refererence to "Gerotors". I realise that you were looking for gerotor elements quite some time ago but I was wondering whether you found what you needed. We manufacture a variety of gerotors (sintered only) and supply them to various manufacturers of oil pumps for diesel engines and other engines for commercial vehicle and racing cars. If you are still looking for a source, please send me an e mail at zaheer@adamjee-engg.com and I will be happy to respond to you.

Best Regards

Zaheer
