What New And Old Foods Will Get Humanity Through?

01/28/2010 1:18 AM

Food is the number one ingredient for peace, and we all need it.

Are you aware of new foods that will insure the well being and happiness of humanity?

Are the old staples good enough?

Is the potato still the most practical food source for humans, or is there something superior?

If the grocery store stopped getting deliveries, and you had no money, what would you eat?

Try kudzu. It's hardy, grows fast, highly nutritious, and it's also supposed to taste quite good. Its beans have even been used to treat alcoholism in Japan.

Take a few cans of spam, a loaf of good bread, some cheese and a bottle of wine with you as you walk away from the population center to your pre-stashed cache of MRE's and freeze dried meals etc..

Be careful with the Spam can. I had some as an emergency ration once, and somehow with that key strip out thing nearly cut my thumb off.

It wasn't advised as a regular diet, keep it in context...

The Aztecs grew algae which they made into something resembling cheese.

Today it is generally assumed they used spiriluna but if so, their taste buds must be very different to mine.

If the taste issue can be fixed, it could be a very productive and nutritious source of food and be used as a staple.

Monsanto won't like it though.

If one is near the sea kelp is a fine tasty and nutritious dish when cooked long and slow with coconut milk, if one can't catch a fish

Personally, I could easily live on garlic, onions, & mushrooms...add whatever else I find along the way, but with these three main ingredients, I'm good to go!

Great, now I'm hungry again...................

I would always be hungry if that was the bulk of what I ate. I need meat!

Ya think?

$ 2 a donut this would stave your hunger well, 1 cup shelled corn warmed, 1 cup green or soy peas warmed, 2-slices 7-grain bread, 1 date, 1/8 lb cheese and 16oz water.

Mix that all together, cover with chocolate icing, and WHAMO...instant smiles!

Seriously, I love whole grain breads, corn is great, miso is my new fave, dates? dunno but most likely! (I love baklava...that has dates, soesn't it?) cheese is nommy, and water is my second fave drink next to green tea.
