How to Size Capacitor Banks

02/02/2010 10:59 PM

Dear Sir,

Normally the reactive power is varied upon the load in a time period.

So to sizing the capacitor bank, is it right that we need to reach the maximum reactive power value in that time frame? do we need to spare some?

you need field work: measure your actual real power and existing PF then there is a table where you choose a factor which u will multiply by the real power based on intended PF

Dear Wareagle,

According to the table above, is to choose the multiplier of KW to correct the power factor.

The load during a period time is fluctuated, do we base on the KW maximum value?

In such a case the best option would be to go for automatic power factor correction system. The maximum kVAR being calculated with the maximum kW in consideration.

I THINK ONE MUST SIZE FOR THE MAX KVAR. THE SYSTEM MUST OPERATE IN STEPS, AS THE KVAR VARIES THE DIFFERENT VALUES OF CAPACITANCE (STEPS) ARE INJECTED TO DO THE BUSINESS.
