want to hang a 13Tons brass bell at the center of a 4.5mtrs span supported by RCC columns at ends. Which is stronger - a solid rod of 8" dia or a hollow pipe of same OD - what shud then be its wall thk.

Hollow pipe/bar is stiffer and failure is sudden, while a solid bar failure is slower and more noticeable

download this, its free and relatively simple to use. I used to use it all the time for a quick analysis.

You're making me very nervous with this question.

You intend to base your choice on how to suspend 13 tons of brass on the speculation of strangers. This is not something to play around with.
